Whoever Desires to Come After Me…Mark 8:34-38

Posted on Sunday, December 5th, 2010

The Good News about Jesus Christ is that whoever believes in Him receives God’s grace completely free.  Without denying this truth, Jesus says is that those who would follow Him must pay a great cost – their very lives.  There is a cost to discipleship, a cross to bear, for each person who follows Christ.  Hear Steve’s message from the 5th of December, 2010.

i find it interesting that when Jesus said, “…take up your cross and follow me…” that at the time His disciples would have wondered what does He mean a cross, or would they have understood a Roman styled death? we know now that Jesus died on a cross but His disciples must have wondered what He meant. Would His disciples understand “taking up a cross” meaning death on a cross in that day specifically by the Romans? or take up meaning to just carry it? Another question i have is, was death on a cross a way to put to death only the worse offences as a way of also humiliating the offender? and stoning, for example, a less humiliating death sentance?
